Seed road map development for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) under the growing together program in Tanzania
Developing a seed roadmap is significant towards improving crop productivity, food security, and economic growth by providing a strategic plan for developing and distributing quality seeds among the value chain actors. It addresses challenges like the gap between seed demand and supply, limited government capacity on public private partnerships (PPP), and market instability by coordinating efforts, improving quality assurance, and connecting seed companies with farmers. Additionally, it is the strategic planning guide for investments, policy development, and capacity building to build more resilient and sustainable seed systems. Moreover, to ensure collaborative efforts within the value chains, the there is a need for small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) to develops a multi-stakeholder platform (MSP) to drive the value chain. The core role of MSP is to build trust and synergy among actors who collaborate to develop solutions that provide mutual benefits for all. By improving coordination and collaboration across the value chain, MSPs help create more efficient and equitable linkages that enhance the participation of and multiply the benefits for all involved. This report summarizes the effort by CIAT, PABRA, ACCELERATE and TARI under Growing Together project by IDH to support 6 SMEs in Tanzania to develop their seed roadmaps and MSPs to support maize, rice, sunflower, soybean and common bean value chains.
