Scaling integrated Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS): Training of Trainers (ToT) / Master Trainers Workshop

Kenya already possesses a strong foundation for generating and delivering climate information. KMSA, the mandated national institution, produces national and county-downscaled seasonal and sub-seasonal forecasts, while County Directors of Meteorological Services translate this information into locally relevant products, in several counties through established Participatory Scenario Planning (PSP) processes. Combined with high mobile-phone penetration, these assets create a strong platform for advisory delivery. However, the components have tended to operate in isolation. The DCAS agenda closes this gap by bundling four elements into one integrated, two-way system: FAO TUNZA’s investment in agro-climate services anchored on KMSA’s 7–10 day forecasts; CIAT’s DCAS work and the planned Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative to modernise KMSA data management through an Application Programming Interface (API); a virtual platform for county Technical Working Groups (TWGs) to co-interpret forecasts and co-develop advisories continuously; and physical digital hubs at Farmer Field Schools where farmers, officers and stakeholders access digital information face-to-face.
