Scaling for Impact (S4I) dialogues: Lessons from Asia
The Asia Regional Dialogues under the Scaling for Impact (S4I) Program underscored that scaling agrifood innovations is largely a systemic challenge rather than a technological one. Although many innovations have proven effective in pilot contexts, their expansion is often limited by institutional fragmentation, financing constraints, and coordination gaps.
The dialogues fostered collective learning and helped partners align around a shared understanding of responsible scaling in diverse agrifood systems, while generating qualitative evidence to inform strategic decision-making. By convening public, private, research, and development actors from countries such as India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, and Cambodia, the process reinforced that scaling is iterative and requires multi-actor collaboration.
Overall, Asia emerges as a key region for refining the S4I approach, highlighting that sustainable scale is more likely when innovations are embedded within programs, institutions, and market systems rather than implemented as isolated initiatives.
