Recipe booklet for complementary foods for young children: Promoting consumption and utilisation of MSIDP II target crops and dietary diversification

This recipe booklet ‘Recipe booklet for complementary foods for young children: Promoting consumption and utilisation of MSIDP II target crops and dietary diversification’ is adapted from The Alliance of Bioversity and International Center for Tropical Agriculture’s (formerly CIAT) bean recipe book and allied materials. It aims to provide practical guidelines to enhance bean preparation, processing and utilisation for improved nutrition and health. It targets complementary feeding practices for young children, as well as other vulnerable categories like pregnant and lactating women, and chronically ill persons like HIV AIDS.

The booklet is designed for project implementers, especially extension workers and any interested person working in nutrition related programs. The booklet assists in provision of step-by-step instructions to communities and households on how to prepare nutritious, balanced and diversified meals from common beans and other foods from the Malawi Six Food Groups. The booklet is not a stand-alone material. It is best used in complementarity with other existing harmonized training modules advocated nationwide through the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) campaign.
