Presentation

Phenotyping abiotic stress

The presentation covered three types of abiotic stress affecting the bean crop (Phaseolus vulgaris L.): heat stress, phosphorus deficiency (low P), and drought. The criteria and parameters necessary to verify that the plants were effectively subjected to each stress condition were explained, including the environmental and nutritional thresholds or ranges used to define them. In addition, the main experimental methodologies for setting up and monitoring the experiments were presented, along with the phenotypic traits evaluated in the bean program to characterize the plants’ responses. Overall, the presentation provided an overview of the evaluation protocols, variables of interest, and measurement criteria necessary to develop reproducible experiments and support the identification of bean genotypes tolerant to these three types of abiotic stress.
