Case Study

Over 1,000 African leaders trained in applying the climate-peace-security nexus to assess climate-related security risks and design conflict-sensitive interventions

Between 2022 and 2025, across Africa, the CGIAR Climate Security team (Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT) and African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) strengthened capacity on the climate–peace–security nexus by embedding training into AGNES’s leadership program. Using research-based modules, the initiative equipped policymakers and practitioners to assess climate-related security risks and design conflict-sensitive interventions. It established a scalable training pathway to better integrate climate and security in policy and programming.
