National-level launching workshop on the Multifunctional Landscapes Science Program (MFL SP) in Omo-Ghibe Living Landscapes of Ethiopia

The Multifunctional Landscapes Science Program (MFL-SP), under the CGIAR 2030 Research and Innovation Portfolio, was officially launched in Ethiopia on April 17, 2026, in Addis Ababa. The workshop brought together stakeholders from government institutions, research organisations, NGOs, private sector actors, and community representatives. It provided a platform to build a shared understanding of the MFL framework and initiate implementation in the Omo-Ghibe Living Landscape. Key challenges identified include land degradation, water scarcity, climate risks, weak institutional coordination, and limited market linkages. Opportunities such as watershed management initiatives, agroecological diversity, and stakeholder collaboration were also highlighted. The workshop emphasised integrated and participatory approaches and concluded with agreed next steps for implementation.
