The national consultation workshop on opportunity crops in Colombia
The Power of Diversity national consultation workshop in Colombia was held on 15–16 July 2025 in Bogotá. The workshop aimed to prioritize two opportunity crops for the country through a participatory, transparent, and evidence-based process. It brought together 40 stakeholders from public institutions, research centers, producer organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector, integrating technical, territorial, cultural, social, and market perspectives. Participants assessed an initial list of 86 crops through several prioritization stages, using criteria such as climate change adaptation, nutritional value, cultural acceptance, local market potential, and gender and social inclusion. Through group discussions, scoring exercises, and a final pairwise comparison, chontaduro and chayote were selected by consensus as Colombia’s prioritized opportunity crops. The publication also highlights stakeholder mapping and value chain analysis exercises, which helped identify key actors, institutional relationships, challenges, and opportunities for both crops. Overall, the findings provide important inputs for the next phases of Power of Diversity in Colombia.
