The inventory of micro, small and medium enterprises interventions in Vietnam (Hanoi and Son La province)

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) constitute 96% of all active enterprises in Vietnam, playing a vital role in the national economy. Of this number, the MSMEs operating in the food sector accounts for less than 10% of the total MSMEs. Despite their relatively small proportion, food MSMEs are the primary suppliers of most food products distributed across the country. However, similar to other MSMEs in Vietnam, food MSMEs typically face significant challenges that hinder their operations and growth.

Interventions to improve the capacity of MSMEs in Vietnam have been prioritized by the government, with active involvement from public, private, and non-governmental organizations. These interventions are being widely implemented across the country. Support services can be classified into three groups: those providing free training and support services, those offering training and support services for a fee, and those utilizing state budgets to fund training and capacity enhancement.

Activity 1.2: Micro, small and medium enterprises and the informal sector of the CGIAR “Better for Diets and Nutrition” (BDN) seeks to understand interventions for food MSMEs with the aim at co-designing interventions in the future promoting a shift of consumption patterns toward more sustainable, healthier diets, helping food MSMEs overcome constraints inhibiting the delivery and sale of sustainable nutritious foods to marginalized populations. Understanding and engaging with potential organizations will offer diverse perspectives, fostering interaction and collaboration to support food MSMEs in the future.
