Enhancing climate resilience project boosts smallholder climate resilience for 571,178 (direct) and 7 million (indirect) farmers in East Africa

Implemented in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda under the UK Met Office’s Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) program, the Enhancing Climate Resilience in East Africa (ECREA) project strengthened climate resilience for smallholder farmers across the four countries by improving access to and use of localized Weather and Climate Information Services (WCIS).
Led through the PABRA model with Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS), National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES), IGAD Climate Prediction & Applications Centre (ICPAC), community radios such as FADECO Radio and Huguka Radio, the Mediae Company, Agro-Advisory Committees (AACs), and community partners, the project combined climate forecasts, agronomic advisories, and local dissemination systems to improve climate risk management, livelihoods, and inclusion, while demonstrating scalable institutional models for climate informed agriculture.
