Enabling private capital for scaling climate-smart agriculture in Africa: Evidence and lessons from AICCRA outcomes, 2021-2025
This info note synthesizes evidence from the AICCRA project on how targeted, science‑based interventions have enabled nearly USD 10 million in private capital for climate‑smart agriculture (CSA) and climate information services (CIS) across Africa between 2021 and 2025. Through three complementary pathways microfinance and women-led savings groups, accelerators and investor matchmaking, and institutionalized financing tools. AICCRA has mobilized and leveraged private investment while embedding CSA considerations into long-term financial decision-making systems. Country cases from Kenya, Ethiopia, Mali, Senegal, and Ghana demonstrate how catalytic de-risking, community-led finance, and institutional commitments can unlock sustained private capital flows that extend beyond project cycles. The findings highlight that durable, inclusive private-sector engagement in CSA is achievable when climate science is effectively integrated into financial mechanisms, partnerships, and local institutions.
