Digital advisory reaches 121,000+ farmers as harmonized fertilizer and agronomic solutions are mainstreamed in Ethiopia
Ethiopia is institutionalizing a nationally governed, data-driven advisory ecosystem through the Harmonized Digital Fertilizer and Agronomic Solutions (HaFAS) framework (2025–2030), led by the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA). HaFAS serves as the broader digital framework for delivering standardized, science-based agronomic and fertilizer advice through multiple channels. Within this framework, legacy decision-support tools, including the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT-developed NextGen Fertilizer Advisory System and ICRISAT’s LANDWise, are being harmonized and integrated into the Localized Agronomy and Fertilizer Advisory (LAFA) platform to deliver localized recommendations under the HaFAS umbrella. The Alliance has provided technical support to develop and harmonize the advisory system, while governance remains nationally-led by EIAR and MoA. By combining on-farm trials, digital innovation, and public–private delivery models, HaFAS strengthens national data systems, governance, and extension capacity, positioning decision-support tools as scalable digital public goods for smallholder transformation in Ethiopia and across Africa.
