Commercialization of climate-resilient, nutrient-dense beans in Kenya, Malawi and Zambia

This solution track scales PABRA’s Demand-Led Seed System to accelerate commercialisation and farmer access to climate-resilient, nutrient-dense bean varieties in Kenya, Malawi and Zambia. The approach connects grain off-takers, seed companies, farmers and research institutions so seed production responds to market demand, supported by improved varieties, agronomic services, digital tools, finance and multi-stakeholder platforms. Evidence from existing demand-led systems points to stronger certified-seed purchasing and farmer willingness to pay, while PABRA-linked initiatives have established significant reach across Africa. By 2030, the track aims to reach 100,000 farmers, deliver 3,000 tonnes of certified and quality-declared seed and strengthen commercial seed and grain markets through coordinated public-private partnerships.
