CGIAR Agricultural Risk Intelligence Tool: Technical Report on Design, Implementation, and Development Pathway
The CGIAR Agricultural Risk Intelligence Tool is a web-based digital platform designed to support structured, evidence-based risk profiling of agricultural small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The tool addresses the challenge of transforming heterogeneous business documents and structured intake data into consistent, explainable risk diagnostics across seven risk categories. The MVP implements a multi-stage artificial intelligence (AI) pipeline hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), combining automated document reading, AI-driven data gap detection, risk scoring, narrative generation, and downloadable PDF report production. The platform was developed and deployed with a production-grade architecture. Repository evidence indicates that all four stages of the AI pipeline — document parsing, gap detection, risk analysis, and report generation — are implemented and deployed. The current version supports the assessment of agricultural SMEs in four countries: Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Zambia. The Risk Tool is intended as a reusable, extensible foundation for CGIAR analysts, accelerator programs, and development finance partners engaged in agribusiness risk assessment.
