Case Study
Caquetá cocoa value chain committee gains legal recognition and advances sector coordination
In Caquetá Department, situated in Colombia’s Amazon region, a joint CIAT- and partner-led multi-stakeholder process strengthened the departmental cacao value chain between 2017 and 2025. Through participatory planning, stakeholder coordination, and compliance with Colombia’s Law 811 of 2003, the initiative formalized the Caquetá Departmental Cocoa Value Chain Committee, enabling its integration into public policy processes.
The work is strategically important for post-conflict rural development, sustainable cacao production, and long-term sector competitiveness in a region with 1,596 cacao-producing families.
