Assessing farmer preferences for adoption of nature-positive interventions: Which technologies and at what cost?

A choice experiment with 120 farmers in northern Vietnam assessed preferences for adopting nature positive farming practices. In more than 99% of choices, farmers favoured adopting nature-positive practices over the current situation. Farmers showed the highest willingness to pay for practices that reduce need for chemical inputs or labour requirements, and provide reliable access to technical advice. High first-year adoption costs reduced willingness to adopt, especially in Lào Cai province where agriculture faces many constraints. Results provide clear guidance for designing cost effective incentives, extension services and adoption support programs for nature-positive farming practices.
