Agricultural Job and Income Creation: AICCRA’s Experience

The Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) programme has contributed to job and income creation across climate-smart agricultural systems in six African countries: Mali, Zambia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana. Although AICCRA was not designed as a jobs programme, it generated employment as a by-product of strengthening market demand, firm performance, and last-mile delivery systems. Drawing on evidence from 63 agribusinesses linked to approximately 800,000 farmers and USD 11 million in investment, the analysis highlights how jobs emerged through mechanisms such as agribusiness accelerators, service-provider models, cooperatives, internships, and digital platforms.
