Advancing iCLEANED: Progress, applications and priorities for scaling

The iCLEANED technical workshop, held in Nanyuki, Kenya, on 28–30 September 2026, reviewed progress in tool development, regional applications and capacity building, and identified priorities for 2027. Advances included a shared R calculation package supporting interactive and batch assessments, alongside interface improvements to simplify data management and reduce entry errors. Application experiences highlighted growing institutional interest and the importance of stakeholder engagement, follow-up training and interpretation support. Technical priorities covered economics, soil organic carbon, water footprints, uncertainty assessment, API integration and analytical outscaling. The resulting roadmap linked these developments with partnerships, communication and resource mobilisation. Sustained uptake will require reliable software, accessible data and continued user support, with success assessed through repeated application, institutional adoption and use in decision-making.
