Breeding for high yield in common bean
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/81937
Abstract
The traditional empirical approach to selection for yield in common bean has met with modest success. Breeding based on the concepts of ideotype, or for specific combinations of physiological traits, and/or for combining ability based on specific genotypic combinations, have not been universally useful. These approaches have been limited mainly by the procedures being deployed and…

Abstract
The Malawi Bean Program distributed improved bean var. Sapelekedwa, Nasaka, 8-7, 5-2, and 25-2 x 8-7 among 5 farmers from the vicinity of Bunda College of Agriculture. Sapelekedwa (the only var. released by the program) gave the highest yields (900 kg/ha). Nyauzembe and White Type II (25-2 x 8-7) yielded half of Sapelekedwa. Problems associated with extension were observed and some…

Abstract
Remote sensing technology for monitoring plant trains has a huge potential to accelerate breeding process. In this paper, we have studied on remote sensing of using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for plant traits phenotyping in rice. The images of rice canopy were taken by a RGB camera from the UAV at three growing…

Abstract
Stunting, and to a lesser extent wasting and undernutrition, of children under five years constitutes a serious health problem in Zambia. Although non-nutritional causes such as infection and poverty importantly exacerbate these conditions, improvements in the diets of children is vital for better health. The age interval beginning…
