Analisis economico de la produccion de yuca
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/81696
Abstract
An economic analysis is made of cassava production in Colombia, based on yields obtained by farmers surveyed in 5 different regions. Yields tended to be greater as farm size increased, averaging 8 and 14 ton/ha in the best zone for small and large farmers, respectively. Av yield was estimated at 6.2 t/ha, which is lower than the official national av of 8 t. There were marked…

Towards site specific Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) emissions measurement: rice in Colombia
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/122020
Abstract
The effects of climate change, due to the increase in the accumulation of GHGs in the atmosphere, is one of the issues that has gained importance worldwide in recent years, because of the current threat to agri-food systems and its contribution to increase climate uncertainty. Therefore, estimating GHGs emissions is a fundamental process for constructing national emissions inventories that allow the…

Too little, too late? Rice production to mitigate climate change in Colombia
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/121966
Abstract
Climate change has proven to threaten agriculture and food security given the close relationship between agricultural outcomes and climate conditions (e.g., rainfall, temperature, radiation). Consequently, and recognizing that production management practices exacerbate the problems and are responsible for low crop performance we are interested to evaluate if efforts to achieve climate-resilient and sustainable…

Agronomic evaluation of 15 Centrosema sp. accessions in time of maximum and minimum rainfall in Colombia
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/122001
Abstract
Much of the tropical livestock sector is managed in extensive grazing systems and in most cases with native and/or naturalized germplasm. Management practices in livestock farms do not only include the rotation of paddocks, adequate periods of occupation and rest, and the pasture areas are competing with other uses for land (e.g., deforestation, crops). That is why it is necessary to…

Gender inequalities in the Colombian cattle sector: An econometric analysis
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/122018
Abstract
Cattle is the most important agricultural activity in Colombia, representing around 30.6% of the national agricultural GDP and 19% of the agricultural (6% of the national) employment, surpassing the values of coffee and palm oil production by three and eight times, respectively. Despite its economic and social importance, the Colombian cattle sector is characterised by gender differences and inequalities, which are…

Aerial mapping of rice crops using mosaicing techniques for vegetative index monitoring
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/97430
Abstract
In Colombia up to 40% of yield variability is due to the effects of climate variations. Rapid phenotyping methods are needed to properly assess the crop and improve production rates. In this paper, we propose to focus on developing a noninvasive system for speeding up monitoring tasks in rice crops. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are used…

The impact of agricultural credit on the cattle inventory in Colombia: a spatial analysis
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/122004
Abstract
The relationship between access to credit, agricultural production/productivity, and deforestation represents clear challenges for sustainable development (i.e., the elimination of poverty, reduction of inequalities, increase of food security and stimulation of economic growth) and has been widely documented. The precise impacts access to credit has on cattle production levels and deforestation,…
