Characterization data on crops, production systems, abiotic constraints, population and poverty for farming system regions of the world.
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/76698
Abstract
This data set builds on a previous project that examined geographic targeting of agricultural research and development based on the coincidence of biophysical and socioeconomic conditions of drought prone crop production (Hyman et al., 2008). The data characterizes the farming systems of John Dixon’s global farming systems framework and map (Dixon et al.,…

Screening for gemini- and potyviridae-related viruses infecting cassava in South America.
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/99236
Abstract
This dataset provides a description of survey data that were collected in Colombia (2017), Argentina (2013 to 2015) and Peru (2016). Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is native to South America, is the third most important food crop in the tropics after rice and maize and has become an important food security crop in Africa and Asia. Viruses are the cause of two of the most important diseases…

Adoption of improved modern rice varieties and management practices in Ecuador
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/90415
Abstract
This dataset provides a description of rice growers collected in Ecuador between October 2014 and March 2015. The survey was implemented using a structured questionnaire administered among 1,028 households in the main rice production areas of Ecuador. Information collected was provided by household heads (. male or female) and included household and plot level data. Survey information includes household socio-…

Data base of Nitrous oxide emissions from Urine patches in LAC
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/80086
Abstract
This database contains data obtained from measurements of nitrous oxide from urine patches on improved and degraded pastures in five countries in LAC (Colombia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Brazil and Trinidad & Tobago). Specifically, the data is on N2O fluxes, soil proprieties, nitrogen content in urine and soil nitrogen. In addition, we include data on N2O emission factors in each country.

Bacterial brown blotch, a disease of rice in tropical America
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/56010
Abstract
A bacterial disease of rice not described previously has been observed in Central and South America. Symptoms are characterized by spreading brown blotches on the leaves. Systemic invasion by the pathogen causes necrosis of the vascular system of the leaves, resulting in their partial or total browning. Under greenhouse conditions, lesion enlargement is…

Sustainable Amazonian Landcapes, Colombia socioeconomic survey
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/101898
Abstract
The household survey was done in the four municipalities that are part of two landscape units from 30 March 2016 to 3 October 2016. A total of 341 households were surveyed, of which 176 (51, 6%) were from UP4 (hill) and 165 (48, 4%) from UP6 (mountainous). All the households that participated in the survey did it freely and under prior informed consent. Sampling was stratify across the two landscape units in order to take into…

Replication Data for: Physiological traits associated with drought resistance in Andean and Mesoamerican genotypes of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/78461
Abstract
Traits and genotypes related with drought resistance in Mesoamerican and Andean gene pool in common beans. Results showed that five Mesoamerican lines SEA 5, SEA 15, SER 22, SER 16, SER 8 and one Andean line SEQ1003 have superior resistance to drought. The superior performance of these lines under drought stress was associated with better…

His and Hers, time and income: How intra-household dynamics impact nutrition in agricultural households
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/92356
Abstract
Understand how dietary diversity is impacted by intra-household decision making processes related to income, nutrition information and time allocation (with primary focus on principle men and women in the household). In particular, we will examine how nutrition information, income, and time allocation impact food consumption.
Furthermore, we will analyze whether households where women…

Cassava Diseases Evaluation - Edaphoclimatic Zone 2: Lowland Tropics; Acid Soils; Medium to High Precipitation
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/102397
Abstract
CIAT systematically evaluates all germplasm accessions in diverse sites in Colombia, to obtain a broad characterization of adaptation to different soils and climates, resistance to many pests and diseases, and quality traits. The information is used primarily to select parents which can potentially contribute characters requested by national programs. Based on these evaluations,…
