Saponin rich tropical fruits affect fermentation and methanogenesis in faunated and defaunated rumen fluid
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/44069
Abstract
A comparison of the effects on rumen fermentation of three saponin rich tropical fruits supplemented to forage-based diets was completed using a rumen simulation technique (Rusitec). The diets contained either no tropical fruit or 100?mg/g of Sapindus saponaria (crude saponins, 120?mg/g), 200?mg/g of Enterolobium…

Inheritance of resistance to fusarium wilt in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/42480
Abstract
The inheritance of resistance in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) to fusarium wilt (Fusarium udum Butler) was studied in crosses between a resistant line ICP 8863 and two susceptible (ICP 2376 and LRG 30) pigeonpea lines. The parents, F1, F2 and backcross populations were screened for resistance to F. udum in a wilt-sick nursery at the ICRISAT Center. Resistance to fusarium wilt is controlled by a…

International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/69896
Abstract
The low cassava yields obtained in L.A. at present are the result of a complex of problems: 1) deficient quality of planting material, which results in low sprouting, poor rooting and little initial vigor; 2) inadequate land preparation and planting systems; 3) control systems for pests and diseases are unknown and weed…

Genetic mapping of microsatellite markers around the arcelin bruchid resistance locus in common bean
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/42898
Abstract
The deployment in common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) of arcelin-based bruchid resistance could help reduce post-harvest storage losses to the Mexican bean weevil [(Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman)]. Arcelin is a member of the arcelin-phytohemagglutinin-?-amylase inhibitor (APA) family of seed proteins, which has been…

Evaluation of application timing in fertilizer micro-dosing technology on millet production in Niger, West Africa
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/43425
Abstract
Micro-dosing technology has been developed by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and its partners to help subsistence farmers in the Sahel improve inorganic fertilizer application. However, the ICRISAT's recommendations regarding fertilizer application through this technology are only applicable at sowing and do not allow any…

Digital soil map of the world
https://hdl.handle.net/10568/42740
Abstract
Soils are increasingly recognized as major contributors to ecosystem services such as food production and climate regulation (1, 2), and demand for up-to-date and relevant soil information is soaring. But communicating such information among diverse audiences remains challenging because of inconsistent use of technical jargon, and outdated, imprecise methods. Also, spatial resolutions of soil maps for most parts of the world are too low to help with practical…
