Winnyfred Amongi

Winnyfred Amongi holds a Master of Science degree in Plant Breeding & Seed systems, and a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Makerere University, Kampala. She is currently pursing a PhD in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology at the same institution.
Since June 2013 to date, she has worked for the Alliance of Bioversity International and International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) under one of its programmes, the Pan African Bean Research Alliance (PABRA), as a common bean-breeding assistant and then an associate. She contributes to developing common bean varieties that are not only resilient on farmers' fields but are also market preferred, nutritious and quick cooking. Winnyfred was also engaged in compilation of trial data from five PABRA countries in 2013. In 2011/2012, she was a Fellow’s Mentee in African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), and also a beneficiary CGIAR Borlaug Fellowship Program in 2017-2019, where she was mentored on “increasing the rates of genetic gains in a common bean-breeding program” at Michigan State University, USA.
Winnyfred is a well published author, and she contributes to peer review of scientific papers for several journals.
