Where does our food really come from?
The journey from field to fork is often long and involves many people, from farmers and processors to producers and traders. These are the food heroes who compose our food systems and work hard to feed the world, even in the face of ongoing challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, World Food Day celebrates their efforts to ensure that food makes its way to our table.
COVID-19 has clearly shown the bond linking environment, food and planetary health and is forcing us to reflect on the changes needed to achieve food systems that adequately grow food, nourish people and sustain the planet.
We must transform the way we produce, trade, consume and waste our food, making sure that we can meet our needs without degrading our natural resources and their diversity. Everyone has a role to play, from producers to consumers.
We can all be food heroes and build back better together.
